01 Mar Get Booked – Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
March 21 is World Poetry Day and what better occasion than this to introduce your child to the magic of Dr Seuss’s poetry. While all of his poems are renowned for being easy-to-read, what makes each one of them special is its profound messaging. Oh, the Places You’ll Go! Remains one of his most inspirational works over the years and not without good reason. Here are some essential life lessons this poetry nudges us to understand:
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go…
Lesson 1 – Dare to forge your own path and follow your conviction because only the brave write their own destiny.
I’m sorry to say so but, sadly, it’s true that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you.
You can get all hung up in a prickle-ly perch. And your gang will fly on. You’ll be left in a Lurch.
Lesson 2 – When life gives you lemons, don’t give up. Keep your head down and keep going until you get that opportunity to make lemonade!
Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.
Lesson 3 – Life may look bleak, but faith can turn things around. Just remember that everyone deserves a second chance, even you. When you get that chance, grab it with both hands and see how you bounce back.
The closing lines of the poem are centred on the encouraging sentiment of how our children, just beginning to take their first steps in the journey of Life, have a world of possibilities open to them. As parents, it’s your responsibility to nudge them to take that first leap of faith. To instil in them the confidence and belief that there is a whole world out there, waiting for them; Waiting to be conquered by them.
You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!
